At any given time, 2,000–3,000 children are in foster care in Orange County. When a child is removed from home, it’s often sudden, heartbreaking, and frightening. They’re given a trash bag to collect whatever belongings they can, and some move from place to place this way. The Give Back Pack provides backpacks filled with essentials and comfort items, offering dignity and a reminder that every child is seen, loved, and not alone.
We once heard that some kids put their homework in their pockets. Not on our watch! Through partnerships and a whole lotta hustling, we collect brand-new (often name brand!) backpacks filled with supplies so kids can head back to school with pride. Imagine a kid without a Halloween costume! We collect new and gently used costumes across OC. Want to host a drive at your school, church, or workplace? We’ll provide the box, signage, and materials—just email us at: givebackpacknow@gmail.com. All costumes go to OC Social Services Agency, where kids get to pick theirs at a special party.

Each holiday season, The Give Back Pack joins other organizations at OC Social Services to provide gifts for children in foster care. Social workers shop for the kids on their lists, but we quickly realized teens were often overlooked. That’s why every year we create toiletry bags filled with things teens love—like makeup, gift cards, nail kits, cozy socks, beanies, and more—so they feel just as seen and celebrated.
